The sunlight and pastels in South Beach, Miami are extraordinarily soothing to me. I grew up in the bleak, barren, slate-coloured landscape of Northern Ontario where summer skies teased us for three months and were quickly replaced by greyness and cold again. I never got used to it. I am happiest where there are palm trees, ocean, and sand.
