Honest Ed's, Toronto

Before there were dollar stores, there was Honest Ed's - the grand daddy of discount stores - on the corner of Bathurst & Bloor St. Sadly, after 66 years, this massive discount department store is closing its doors.  I'll miss this place for its unapologetic loudness, super-bright lights, abundant slogans, and true one-of-a-kindness.

TIFF

Toronto is abuzz with movie fever during the Toronto International Film Festival every September.  I can't help  getting swept up in the hype.  TIFF is one of my favourite times of the year - both for the festival's massive celebration of film and for the major glitz and glam that lights up the city.

Amigo de Che

I met this man on the Paseo del Prado in Havana, the first time I visited Cuba.  He told me he was a friend of Che.
